On Wednesday 1 March 2017, at 4.30 pm Indian Rhino Sofie, 11 years old,  gave birth to her first calf.

According to Zoo Press Release, the little male weighted 60 kilograms and after 5 hours he was drinking from his Mother,that shows a surprising calm and relaxed behaviour for a first-time baby. Zoo Officials are positive that visitors will be able to see the duo very soon.

The calf has been given the name “Sanjai”, which is common among boys in India and means “The Victory”.

Sofie came to Nuremberg on September 2015 and after few weeks she was introduced to her mate, 28 year-old bull Ropen. Things went very well and after 481 days here it come little Sanjai.
