Tragic news came from Nurnberg (DE): on Sunday 1 October 2017 Indian Rhino Bull Ropen was put to sleep. The Bull suffered of severe foot problem since the time he lived in Czech Republic. In Nuremberg, where he has resided since 2006, several changes were made on the soils and some improvements were obtained, but the problems didn’t heal.
Ropen was born in Whipsnade (UK) back in 1988, so he was 29 years old , which is a remarkable age for an Indian Rhino. During the past days Ropen suffered much more pain on the hind legs and on Sunday the situation became unbearable: Ropen could not get up properly. Staff did their best, moving him twice to make him get up, till he fell down for the last time and was not able to get up anymore. The hard decision to euthanize him soon followed.
Ropen’s legacy continues through his childs: Nova, born in 1997, Seto Paitala, born in 2009, and the last one, male Sanjai, born in March 2017.
